Ella Wesly

Welcome to my site, I’m excited that we have the opportunity to get to know each other a little better.  I promise that I’ll do my best to give you a good picture of who I am inside and out.

Physically, I am a rather short slight female with unruly curly hair and light brown skin who gives great hugs.

Culturally, I am a subtle mix of Polish and Dominican blood, and was raised with all the harsh rules and bilingual scolding of any other first generation child.  Personally, I cannot say which culture I find closer to my heart because both are such deeply-rooted aspects of who I am.  I am always yearning to learn more about where I come from and how I came to be.

Educationally, I am an undergraduate student at Clemson University completing my degree in Fine Arts concentrating in ceramic sculpture with an emphasis in functional design and a directed study in oil painting as they pertain to various cultures.  I am also currently completing a degree in the Life Sciences and Pre-Professional Health with an interest in International Medicine.  I am constantly using my scientific classes as inspiration toward my artistic endeavors and to me they are far from separate.

Beyond simple classes I am the vice president of the Fine Art Student Association.  This position allows me to play a hand in planning biannual trips around the country for fellow Clemson students to spend time exploring all the art museums our nation has to offer.  We have recently visited Houston, Washing DC, and Chicago.

In the Clemson community, I am one of the founding members of the Clemson Community Supported Art program while participating and helping with all of the events of the Clemson Ceramics Association.  Both programs are centered around ceramic functional ware and allow me to practice my skills while spreading my name.

Professionally, I work at Glazed Pottery Studio in Clemson, which allows me to be surrounded in art beyond academia.  On a weekly basis I teach painting and handbuilding ceramics classes to people of all ages.  To me this position is my connection to the greater Clemson area and gives me the rare opportunity to share my passions with beginners and children.

Internationally, I am, and forever will be, a student.  I have been very privileged to have the opportunity to study internationally.  In Italy I studied drawing, painting, and art history.  In China I worked with the International Medicine program ISLP.  Most recently, I traveled in Poland and studied language, literature, and history.  I have also traveled with service communities throughout the United States and the Dominican Republic which allowed me to immerse myself in various communities and walks of life.

Within every endeavor I take on I feel that I grow.  I find inspiration and meaning with everyone that I meet and I am constantly falling in love.  I love the world over and the people that populate it.  For all the chaos, one can always find beauty.
